automation project for a wet weekend and it really shows the power and simplicity of Indigo.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"sj-gblock\">\n<script language=\"javascript\">\n<!--\ngoogle_ad_client = language=\"javascript\"  src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\"><\/script>\n<\/div>The easiest way to interface to most garage doors is through their manual push button control. \u00a0These are usually\u00a0securely inside the property and using them removes the need to\u00a0try and link up with the more complicated and potentially less reliable wireless operation of the doors.<\/p>\n<p>Indigo supports many relay controllers via its 3rd party plugin program and we chose to use the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Global-Cache-iTach-Contact-Closure\/dp\/B005J7MPMK\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?dchild=1&amp;keywords=Global+Cache+IP2CC+iTach&amp;qid=1586971896&amp;sr=8-1&amp;linkCode=ll1&amp;tag=ah4-21&amp;linkId=233393c634fb5b4126e003370711c3e2&amp;language=en_GB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Global Cache IP2CC\u00a0iTach TCP\/IP to Contact Closure<\/a>\u00a0which provides a set of 3 relays to activate devices over your network and via the Internet. \u00a0Our&#8217;s is the Ethernet version pictured but it is\u00a0also available in Power over Ethernet (PoE) and Wi-Fi versions too.<\/p>\n<p>Next we added the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cynic.org\/indigo\/plugins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cynical Cach\u00e9\u00a0Plugin<\/a> from &#8216;Perry The Cynic&#8217; to our Indigo system. \u00a0Installation is as easy as un-zipping and double-clicking the downloaded the file.<\/p>\n<p>Like wise, setup is simple starting with the addition of a new device. \u00a0Choose &#8216;Cynical Cach\u00e9&#8217; from the &#8216;Type&#8217; drop-down and &#8216;Network Device&#8217; from the &#8216;Model&#8217; list. \u00a0Name your device and hit the Edit Device Settings button.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Here you enter the IP address of your IP2CC unit. \u00a0There are 3rd party Mac versions of the\u00a0iHelp, iLearn, iTest, and iConvert\u00a0Global\u00a0Cach\u00e9 utilities <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rmartijnr.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a> that you can use to find the IP address of your unit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Next create a new Action Group that you can call on to operate your doors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a style=\"text-align: left;\">Choose the correct item from the three relays and have it turning on with an auto-off to simulate pressing your garage door button. \u00a0Although the screenshot above shows a 1 second interval we found setting it to 2 seconds gave more reliable operation of the doors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/automatedhome.com\/images\/wiringguide\/garagesensor.jpg?resize=300%2C229&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Garage Door Sensors\" width=\"300\" height=\"229\" \/>Safety &amp; Security<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; We&#8217;ve \u00a0had sensors fitted to our garage doors since installation that interface directly to the doors motor control unit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">These prevent the doors from starting to close if there&#8217;s something in the way and if anything breaks the beam while they are descending then they&#8217;ll reverse.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This gives some peace of mind with a potentially dangerous piece of automation, you don&#8217;t want to come home and find your cat either side of your garage door!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We&#8217;ve purchased <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/gp\/product\/B00XOWFCNQ\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=19450&amp;creativeASIN=B00XOWFCNQ&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=ah4-21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">these Z-Wave garage door sensors<\/a> that will provide us with status of the door position and we&#8217;ll be covering fitting them in a future post.<\/p>\n<p>For now though our garage doors can be operated from our iPhone using the Indigo Touch App and we have the feed from the camera inside the garage on the same screen too so we can monitor it. \u00a0Being able to open the doors when you&#8217;re in view of the house when driving home, \u00a0rather than having to waiting to be within RF range of the old controller is a nice update.<\/p>\n<p>Add to that the ability to do it from anywhere in the world with Internet Access and you have an inexpensive but useful smart home upgrade.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Now read <a
