{"id":18324,"date":"2014-11-10T08:32:29","date_gmt":"2014-11-10T08:32:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/automatedhome.com\/?p=18324"},"modified":"2017-03-01T08:40:55","modified_gmt":"2017-03-01T08:40:55","slug":"review-lilin-lr7424-1080p-hd-ip-cctv-camera","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/automatedhome.com\/reviews\/review-lilin-lr7424-1080p-hd-ip-cctv-camera.html","title":{"rendered":"Review: Lilin LR7424 1080p HD IP CCTV Camera"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We&#8217;re all becoming used to seeing great HD images on our TVs these days, so more than ever before, home CCTV can be pretty jarring to look at.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"sj-gblock\">\n<script language=\"javascript\">\n<!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-5598479065369258\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 300; \ngoogle_ad_height = 250; \ngoogle_ad_format = \"300x250_as\"; \ngoogle_ad_channel = \"7058025304\"; \ngoogle_ad_type = \"text_image\"; \ngoogle_color_border = \"FFFFFF\"; \ngoogle_color_bg = \"FFFFFF\"; \ngoogle_color_link = \"52a79f\"; \ngoogle_color_url = \"CFFFDF\"; \ngoogle_color_text = \"000000\"; \n\/\/--> \n<\/script>\n<script language=\"javascript\"  src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\"><\/script>\n<\/div>With this in mind we started to investigate the HD IP camera world. \u00a0It&#8217;s a new name to us, but the <a href=\"http:\/\/scripts.affiliatefuture.com\/AFClick.asp?affiliateID=113375&amp;merchantID=2599&amp;programmeID=6937&amp;mediaID=0&amp;tracking=mam&amp;url=http%3a%2f%2fwww.networkwebcams.co.uk%2fproduct_info.php%3fcPath%3d141%26products_id%3d1806\" target=\"_blank\">Lilin\u00a0LR7424<\/a> Day &amp; Night 1080P HD Vari-Focal IR IP Camera\u00a0seemed to fit all our requirements &#8211; 1080p HD, PoE, IR Illumination and outdoor housing (IP66) with bracket included.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Installing the Camera<\/strong> &#8211; The first thing we noticed taking the camera from it&#8217;s box is the quality of construction. \u00a0The housing and bracket are metal, substantial and sturdy. \u00a0It&#8217;s a bigger unit than our other IP cameras, although not as big as the one we have in the traditional type external housing with heater &#8211; dimensions 121.5mm(W) x 109mm(H) x 231mm(D). Also in the box is an instruction manual, the\u00a0LILIN CMX recording software CD and an\u00a0L-type hex key wrench for the bracket. \u00a0Time to get it on the wall.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/automatedhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/lilin-drilling.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-19650 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/automatedhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/lilin-drilling.jpg?resize=250%2C197&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Drilling Cavity Wall to install CCTV\" width=\"250\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/automatedhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/lilin-drilling.jpg?w=800&amp;ssl=1 800w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/automatedhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/lilin-drilling.jpg?resize=300%2C236&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/automatedhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/lilin-drilling.jpg?resize=768%2C605&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a>Our friends at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.i-home.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">i-Home<\/a> brought their awesome selection of SDS drill bits and got through our cavity wall in no time. \u00a0The screws that came with the camera were too short and Stephen recommended we use stainless steel ones anyway.<\/p>\n<p>The clever bracket allows you to pass your cables straight through its hollow body and into the camera. \u00a0In our case we&#8217;d gone for the Power over Ethernet option (PoE+ IEEE 802.3at) and our PoE switch supplies up to 8 cameras. All this means just a single CAT5 cable is needed to provide both the data and power connections.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/automatedhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/lilin-bracket.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-22751\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/automatedhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/lilin-bracket.jpg?resize=220%2C168&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Lilin CCTV Cable Management Bracket\" width=\"220\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/automatedhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/lilin-bracket.jpg?w=500&amp;ssl=1 500w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/automatedhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/lilin-bracket.jpg?resize=300%2C229&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 220px) 100vw, 220px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a rubber gasket that goes between the camera body and bracket to help keep moisture out.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen told us the biggest single issue they see with outdoor cameras in keeping them clean, with spider webs being the biggest single cause of problems. \u00a0There are some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/s\/?_encoding=UTF8&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=19450&amp;field-keywords=spider%20spray&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;tag=ah4-21&amp;url=search-alias%3Daps\" target=\"_blank\">anti-spider\u00a0sprays<\/a> on the market now that may help reduce this.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"sj-box\">Tip: Drill the hole through your wall with a slight upwards incline in the direction of the interior, that way any moisture can&#8217;t run into the cavity<\/div>\n<p>The camera &#8216;clicks&#8217; round on its ratchet style toothed bracket before locking off with the included allen key. \u00a0While this helps to ensure the camera won&#8217;t move it could potentially rule out that perfect angle where it falls between clicks. \u00a0But we&#8217;re nitpicking, the mounting system is excellent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Viewing<\/strong> &#8211; We initially had a problem viewing the camera on our \u00a0Macs, but flashing to the latest firmware solved this. We found an undocumented URL &#8211; \/safari.html &#8211; that offers a more basic and compatible view\u00a0(default login of admin:pass).<\/p>\n<p>The camera includes\u00a0all the usual features you&#8217;ve come to expect from an IP camera\u00a0including ONVIF support and the ability to FTP and email images based on movement. The hardware supports audio too but you need to bring your own microphone as there isn&#8217;t one built in. You can use audio as well as video for an alarm\u00a0trigger.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/automatedhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/lilin-inside.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-22756\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/automatedhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/lilin-inside.jpg?resize=209%2C250&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Lilin LR7424 Interior\" width=\"209\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/automatedhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/lilin-inside.jpg?w=418&amp;ssl=1 418w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/automatedhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/lilin-inside.jpg?resize=251%2C300&amp;ssl=1 251w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 209px) 100vw, 209px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can choose\u00a0between 3.3 ~ 12mm fixed lens (horizontal viewing angle: 79.3 ~ 29.8\u00b0 iris: F1.4) and 9 ~ 22mm fixed lens (horizontal viewing angle: 29.5 ~ 12.4\u00b0 iris: F1.4).<\/p>\n<p>The image quality is very impressive and it immediately made the rest of our IP camera look very poor in comparison.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously the larger resolution video stream means you&#8217;ll need decent up bandwidth to get an acceptable frame rate for viewing the camera away from home.<\/p>\n<p>Performance at night (when the camera switches automatically\u00a0to black and white) is impressive with the built in IR LEDs around the lens throwing illumination up to 35 metres.<\/p>\n<p>We use <a href=\"https:\/\/automatedhome.com\/reviews\/our-new-home-server-isnt-a-server-the-synology-1813-nas-review.html\" target=\"_blank\">our trusty Synology 1813+<\/a> with it&#8217;s built in CCTV recording capability\u00a0to capture streams\u00a0from all our IP cameras.<\/p>\n<p>Check out the day time sample below to give you an idea of the detail in an HD CCTV image &#8211;
