{"id":21858,"date":"2014-03-14T07:57:59","date_gmt":"2014-03-14T07:57:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/automatedhome.com\/?p=21858"},"modified":"2019-08-28T14:17:11","modified_gmt":"2019-08-28T13:17:11","slug":"video-loxone-launch-wireless-retro-fit-home-automation-add-ons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/automatedhome.com\/hardware\/video-loxone-launch-wireless-retro-fit-home-automation-add-ons.html","title":{"rendered":"Video: Loxone Launch Wireless Retro-Fit Home Automation Add-ons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Loxone\u00a0Home automation system has been around since 2008 and this week they have launched a brand new wireless addition to their range.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"sj-gblock\">\n<script language=\"javascript\">\n<!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-5598479065369258\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 300; \ngoogle_ad_height = 250; \ngoogle_ad_format = \"300x250_as\"; \ngoogle_ad_channel = \"7058025304\"; \ngoogle_ad_type = \"text_image\"; \ngoogle_color_border = \"FFFFFF\"; \ngoogle_color_bg = \"FFFFFF\"; \ngoogle_color_link = \"52a79f\"; \ngoogle_color_url = \"CFFFDF\"; \ngoogle_color_text = \"000000\"; \n\/\/--> \n<\/script>\n<script language=\"javascript\"  src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\"><\/script>\n<\/div>The\u00a0&#8216;Loxone Air&#8217; system employs wireless mesh technology (868MHz\u00a0) as well as\u00a0bi-directional comms for acknowledgement and status.<\/p>\n<p>The system offers easier installation for the retro-fit market and should help to cement Loxone as an attractive choice for people shopping around for a smart home solution.<\/p>\n<p>The system launch features 2 products with the promise of more in the pipeline.<\/p>\n<h2>Air Base Extension<\/h2>\n<p>The Loxone Air Base Extension (above left)\u00a0provides the interface between the Miniserver and the Loxone Air wireless devices. The Air Base Extension consumes less than 150mW and a single unit\u00a0can control up to 128 Air devices, either directly or by bouncing its signal through the other air devices mesh network, providing an ideal system for easy retrofitting into an existing property.<\/p>\n<h2>Smart Socket Air<\/h2>\n<p>The Smart Socket Air (above right)\u00a0features a 16A relay (socket rated at 13 Amps) and allows you to control your appliances either automatically from the Miniserver&#8217;s schedules and logic, or manually from the Loxone apps.<\/p>\n<p>Its own electronics consume less than 500mW and its\u00a0built-in energy monitor sends consumption data for the appliance plugged into it to the Miniserver\u00a0every 5 minutes, or if a\u00a05% or more change occurs then the update is sent immediately.\u00a0The Loxone Smart Socket Air also features a\u00a0built-in\u00a0temperature sensor that can be used to help with heating control. \u00a0The module is available in 5 different plug \/ socket types to cover a huge range of countries.<\/p>\n<h4>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/automatedhome.com\/new-products\/loxone-miniserver-home-automation-controller.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Loxone Miniserver Home Automation Controller<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>We asked Philipp Schuster,\u00a0Managing Director at Loxone UK,\u00a0why they have decided to go with yet another proprietary wireless system rather than adopting one of the existing standards, he told us&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>While Loxone Air is our own standard and protocol, other manufacturers can make use of it as well through our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lox-engineering.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Loxone Smart Engineering<\/a>\u00a0company. \u00a0We were tired of restrictions that EnOcean, Zigbee, Zwave and other standards impose (no proper security, no handshakes, no firmware update over the wireless network, etc.).
